Liberty Class is breaking down stereotypes this year! We are exploring the origin of stereotypes, looking at our own beliefs, and reading about them in the graphic novel American Born Chinese. So far, the students have been doing very interesting work, discussing their thoughts on racist, ageist, and gender-based stereotypes. They have also written about the ways they have felt stereotyped in their lives. Using their newfound knowledge, the students wrote a kid-friendly story, illustrating a character's struggle against stereotypes.
This type of work takes maturity and bravery, so way to go Liberty!

Egpyt Presentations
The Asia History class just finished writing reports on aspect of Ancient Egypt, and then presenting their findings to the class. They were required to come up with an umbrella topic under which each group member would be writing an individual report. Then, in the presentation portion, they were able to create a visual learning experience for their classmates.
The results were impressive, to say the least. Each group captivated their classmates with models, activities, and creative video footage. The presentations were professional and fun!

Holiday Fun in Liberty Class
It has been a busy week! The Liberty students performed holiday songs for the masses at Montgomery Park and at NW Place. They sounded great! They are also making delivering donations to the Northwest Children's Outreach on Friday. We have so much we will have to take a truck! Thanks to all the families who contributed, and who helped make this season fun and productive.

Hello from Denver!
Dear students,
I hope you are all doing well and had a wonderful Thanksgiving! I was able to spend the holiday with family and ate dinner at 8500 feet! We are settling into life in Denver. We found a house we really like and hope to move into it in a few more weeks. We will be living in a city named Aurora. 350,000 people live there. Our house is in the Southern part of Aurora.
The first week I was here I experienced strange symptoms. The higher altitude gave me vertigo, making me very dizzy. It was also hard to do anything active because you get out of breath very quickly. I also felt very tired.
We were only here a week when we had to travel to South Carolina. We spent a week there visiting with family. When we returned to Denver the altitude did not bother me. So, I think i have adapted.
I hope you are excited for the book fair! I'm so sad not to be there. Let me know what some of your favorite books are!
I miss you all very much! I hope you are all doing well and that you have a safe and exciting Winter Break!

Student Spotlight
Sahana was our first student spotlight of the new school year! She shared with us many of her interests and artifacts. Her favorite animal is a puppy, she loves chocolate and the color blue. She likes to ski, knit and write. In her spare time she reads and sings. The artifacts she shared with us included a book from her favorite book series, Harry Potter, her knitting needles and her gymnastics leotard.
